Passive Solar Straw Bale Residence in Lone Pine, CA

First permitted straw bale structure in California.

Innovative waste treatment system includes greywater march and composting toilet- all permitted systems in 1991.

 

 

GREEN BUILDING FEATURES INCLUDE:

Passive solar design for natural ventilation, passive heating and cooling and daylighting.

Straw bale construction to conserve resources and divert waste.

Greywater system to treat wastewater from sinks and laundry.

Composting toilet to handle biological waste.

Poured adobe floor with local clay in 2' x 2' tiles with adobe slip to seal the joints.

Reduced EMF's (electromagnetic fields) in high occupancy zones.
