New Buddhist Campus, Taiwan

Dharma Drum University (DDM)

Sustainability consultants for a new Buddhist campus in Taiwan.

“…to socialize humanity, to humanize society, to uplift the character of mankind, and to build this world into a pure land,” is a perfect context for green campus design.

GREEN BUILDING FEATURES INCLUDE:

-Passive solar design for natural ventilation, passive heating and cooling.

Natural daylight is enhanced by ceiling slope as seen in the above cross section sketch.

Natural ventilation was the most critical passive solar strategy followed by solar electric potential; these factors had the most influence on design orientation.

A four acre advanced waste treatment pond system was proposed for biological waste treatment that would contribute to the open space and wildlife habitat.
