New Leaf Inn

Passive Solar Straw Bale Residence

” I think our first year’s electric bill was $12, it is a good house, we used the back-up heaters once during the freeze last winter and haven’t really needed the ceiling fans during the summer; we understand how the thermal mass works to keep us cool in the summer and warm in the winter!”

GREEN BUILDING FEATURES INCLUDE:

-Passive solar design for natural ventilation, passive heating and cooling and daylighting.

-Straw bale construction to conserve resources and divert waste.

-Reclaimed douglas fir for light soffits and salvaged/ reclaimed doors.

-Bamboo flooring, american clay plaster interior finish.

-High recycled content tiles and countertops.

-Photovoltaic (PV) solar electric array provides clean renewable energy to the site.
